First Event of 2018 - Tweseldown Horse Trials
After all the horrendous weather, we were very pleased to get our first run of the season done as planned. I had 5 horses running over the first two days of competition.
Twesledown Day 1 - Quick Guy had his first taste of a proper event in the BE100 and showed he’s going to be one to watch with a 24 dressage, clear SJ, then just one green mistake at the water XC and I chose to turn a circle nearer the end as he was getting a little quick and strong. I believe this is sensible with the young horses as it is always better to teach them than punish them for making a mistake. Balius 7 has massively improved from last season, helped by some hunting with the Portman and South Dorset. He did a 31 dressage, annoyingly rolled the last pole in the show jumping and a great clear XC in the time for 8th in the 100. Dynasty was seriously happy to be back at a party, he was very fresh in his dressage for 35 and followed it up with a steady double clear in the OI for 6th.
Tweseldown Day 2 - Guus DHI felt absolutely fantastic in the Novice, doing a much improved test for 32, rolled an unlucky pole SJ and a then jumped a mega clear XC, over the moon with how he’s feeling! I then had my first run in a couple of years on Top Biats, absolutely thrilled to have the ride on him - he did a harshly marked 33 dressage and a lovely but very steady double clear.
I was super pleased with how all the horses ran, and a huge thanks must go to Tweseldown for running such a great event with amazing going even after all the horrendous weather!
